Christmas in Manchester

Christmas Markets

Manchester’s most popular attraction the Christmas Markets return once again to Albert Square, marking the onset of the festive season. Conceptually of German origin, the Christmas Market tradition is now well-established across the continent, with the Manchester Christmas Markets becoming a festive season mainstay since 1997. Centred in Albert Square, the events central venue will be slightly reconfigured this year due to refurbishment work taking place at the town hall. Stalls extend beyond the traditional Albert Square perimeter, as roads are closed to traffic for the duration of the event. Featuring the staple German delicacies of bratwurst and glühwein, this year’s markets will feature more than 300 separate stalls and chalets across eight city centre locations. Food, drinks, gifts, craft, jewellery, clothes and toys, supplied by local and European producers, will tempt attendees as a broad range of Christmas delicacies from the continent are offered to customers.
